Why involved in the foundation

In 2001, I have been in Ecuador with Melanie for 3 months. Here I have learned Spanish, traveled and I worked with children in an orphanage in Quito. These children, together with the children of the street, left a big impression on me. When Melanie came up with the idea of a foundation, I was immediately enthusiastic and knew that this would be a good way to do something for the children in Ecuador. In this way I want to contribute to a better future for these children.

Melanie Verstraeten board member of the foundation Children of Ecuador
Board member
Name:Melanie Verstraeten (1979)
Work:Social Cultural Worker
Hobbies:Traveling, music, being creative, (salsa) dancing and working with children

Why involved in the foundation

After my first visit to Ecuador (2000) I was sold! I love this multifaceted country and its people. The (street) children made the biggest impression on me. In the Netherlands I worked as a social cultural worker with children and I think that that's the best thing there is, just because children are great and have so many sides. In Ecuador I feel at home and I can do something there for the Ecuadorian children; for me that's the perfect combination. Since April 1st 2004 I live in Ecuador with my Ecuadorian husband David and daughter, and I can directly help where necessary. A great challenge! But I especially enjoy the view of happy children’s faces! Besides that I arrange all the programs for the volunteers and students and guide them through their adventure.
