Handy tips
- Things you really don't want to loose, you shouldn't bring to Ecuador. The change that you will be robbed isn't big, but of course there's always a possibility.- Make sure you make good arrangements with your loved ones at home about keeping in touch; this prevents a lot of worries. They don't know where you are exactly, especially if you're traveling around. In almost every place in Ecuador you can use the internet quite cheaply; calling isn't expensive either so it's not hard to keep in touch.
- If you are traveling during the high season (June – September), than the prices for traveling are a lot higher than normal. Do you want to leave in the period June – September / end of December? Than keep in mind that a lot of flights are more expensive. Make sure you're on time arranging you're flight, but don't rush it either. Look around on the internet for the best deal; this can save you a lot of money.
- Make copies of all your important papers (including tickets) or scan them on your computer before you go traveling. This way, when you loose your papers during traveling, you still have the data that we're on your papers and you have some sort of proof.
- In Ecuador you'll find a lot of begging people and children on the streets. The solution is not to give them money, since this is often used for alcohol & drugs. It's better to carry some candies or something like that in your bag, and to give these away.
- Don't change money on the streets.
- For in your hand luggage: clean underwear, an extra shirt and your toiletries. This in case your luggage arrives later.
